What do i need to do in order to be able to connect LAN cable to my laptop?

Everytime I connect a LAN cable to my laptop in order to get into my office network printer or to go on the internet, my laptop is still unable to get on the LAN network. Any clues on what I might do?

the cable I've been trying to use is a 10/100 M LAN cable. Everytime I use it on other laptops it shows green and amber lights to indicate that it has been successfully connected to the jack on the laptop. This does not happen when I connect the cable to my own laptop.

You are being way to vague. Do you know it's the right cable? Have you looked in Network Connections? There's too many possibilities.

Make sure you have the right Ethernet usb cable,from computer to laptop the right one is a crossover cable.

So you are plugging an Ethernet cord into your laptop from a corporate jack correct?

Does this work at home?

When you plug in the cable do the lights on the port turn on? Should be a green and amber lights.

Does your laptop show that you are making a connection?

Best to contact the Network Admin at work to make sure that the ports you are using are connected to the infrastructure and whether or not you need to make any changes on your laptop to connect. Sometimes you need to enter in PROXY settings or static settings.

Need more information to provide a better solution.

Additional:

Does the Ethernet port on your laptop work at other locations?

Go into Device Manager and check under Network Adapters and make sure that your laptop is not having issues with the Ethernet Adapter drivers. You may need to re-install the drivers.
