At some point, internet access always has to be paid for. When I surf the net from my nokia N95 I am usually using the wireless router as a gateway, the same way my computer uses it. This doesn't cost any more than what I've already paid the ISP. When I'm not home, well I haven't yet found a hotspot with free wi-fi access so, for example, if I'm at McDonalds, I have to see a member of staff about getting logged on. Sometimes you can sort it all out through your phone but it involves entering your debit/credit card details or in some cases referring the charge to your mobile contract. You can also access the internet through your mobile service provider but that is GPRS, not Wi-Fi and incurs an additional charge to what you are contracted for. There is also a "fair use policy" which isn't usually very fair but that's another issue. You should also be aware that using your mobile for internet access in McDonalds or Starbucks is like shouting out "I'm a poser with an expensive phone, please mug me!"
