can i transfer my ibm memory chip into my new compaq computer?

i have an old ibm computer (manuf. date 2000) i no longer plan on using but i found a 128 mb memory chip i was wondering if i could still use it with my relatively new compaq computer. i'm not sure of the maximum memory my new comp. can handle, i'd like know where to find that info. also. thanx
