What kind of internal Hard Drive Do I need?

I have a hard drive on my laptop and when I looked up the info on it, it says the interface on it is SATA 1.5 gb/s. I wanna replace my HD with a better one. Does that mean the new one I get has to also have SATA 1.5 gb/s. Because the one I wanted said SATA 3.0 gb/s which I just thought was an upgrade from what I have. But I'm not sure exactly
