Doesn't matter unless the jumpers are set on cable select. In that case, put them in order, ie. master, slave.

Well that is a good question. Normally, that won't matter. However, some systems are specific. If the ribbon cable that you are using does not say Master or Slave then chances are that it doesn't matter. As long as your jumpers are set correctly on both the master and slave drives it shouldn't matter which ribbon connecter they are plugged into. But again, look at your ribbon cable and if the words are written on the cable then go according to that. And just in case your system is specific and your cable is not marked, the Master drive is almost always the one at the end of the cable. The Slave is almost always the middle connector. Hope that helps.~Purr

It doesn't matter. Master and Slave are set by a little plastic jumper on the hard drive and CD independently, or they're set to Cable Select, which means it doesn't matter twice. The only problems that might arise is if both your hard drive and CD are set to master or both are set to slave, since they'll conflict. If one is set to Master or Slave and the other set to Cable Select there can also be a problem, though usually that's okay.Ideally though, you should set each drive on a separate cable since then the drives won't be sharing the same data path.
