My sound wont work on my Asus A8N-SLI SE?

I just bought a new motherboard (Asus A8N-SLI SE) and it has this connection sense thing that when you plug speakers or ear phones in it detects what you have plugged in and then it works (or it should) but instead it shows me I plugged my earphones in but it gives me a message saying please stop other audio applications before starting and I just cant figure out what applications its talking about, I have the need to play battlefield 2 online and I just cant because the sound wont work, it worked fine in my friends computer and I even formatted the HDD! Please someone say they have had the same problem and know whats wrong. I looked in the user manual and there it gives me the same message but they just don't specify.
