Default MacBook and Windows Hard Drive question?

I want to verify that I can use an external Hard Drive where media was added to it from my PC. I was told by a couple of Mac people at the Apple store that if I have an external HD that I can USB connect it to my MacBook and transfer the files onto my new MacBook. Is this true? Also why is there such a diparity between prices for 1 TB of storage?to those that answered thus far, thank you...as an addition to the question...once I transfer files to the external from the PC, will I then be able to still put new stuff on the external from the MAC...in other words I am worried that once it is plugged into the MAC that the HD will be formatted for MAC only thereafter...sorry if I sound clueless...I just left the PC world yesterday to go to a better place...apple...

Because of marketing...Find an external from a relable source like newegg.com http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136186There ya go... it will work with whatever you need.

Yes. I transfer files from PC to MAC. Sometimes I work with another freelancer that works on PC we transfer files frequently with an external hard drive.Sorry I can't answer part 2 of your question.
