alienware laptop mouse issues?

The touch-mouse on my Alienware laptop will freak out and move around and jump on it's own. When I attempt to use it, it will hardly move or move in a direction that I'm not indicating. There's a little device in the lower right corner that lights up according to where the pressure is applied on the mouse pad and it seems accurate..I haven't watched it that closely though. Can anyone tell me what to look for and what to do? I'm not sure if I have a warranty so please I just want someone who understands to tell me what to look for before I take my laptop in and pay ridiculous amounts.

Which laptop model do you have? Have you already tried reloading drivers?
