Default Im buying an Acer 1.8ghz TK-55 Laptop but it has no OS on it need help!?

Well im buying an Acer 1.8ghz TK-55 Laptop off ebay but the only thing wrong with it is that it has no OS. The OS license is windows vista home premium. But I, like most others hate vista with a passion. I was looking to put windows XP media center on it or XP pro. But what im wanting to know is can I do that or will I have to buy Vista home premium like on a disk from bestbuy? And since there is no OS, will I have to make a partition on the harddrive of the laptop?

I believe you are actually talking about the Acer Aspire 5520 which was commonly referred to as a TK-55. This is actually the processor in the unit - Athlon64 X2 TK-55.There is no reason why you cant put Windows XP on this notebook, except that your will need to get a copy of XP to install. Vista Home Premium does not give you downgrade rights to use XP.As for making a partition, whether you choose to install Vista or XP, both installations include the ability to create the partition on the harddrive while installing.

All you have to do is buy a new copy of Windows XP. Stick the disc in the drive. Windows will begin installing itself. As the hard drive has no operating system on it, chose the option to format the drive and install a new copy of Windows. As for where to get XP, NewEgg.com (Very reputable PC parts website. I've been buying from them for years) still has Windows XP in stock:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116056

use Linux its free and it functions just as well as xp and mac and as far as the drivers find the correct internet driver for the laptop you can do that on another comp and install a program called driver detective and it will find and download the latest drivers for your particular system i think the driver software is $20 but thats still way cheaper than a new os, or you can use the old standby and look for a xp torrent file and use that, i did it for this comp i bought off a friend
